Arthur Watson Burial Records: Plot number

Hint 1

Eliza Green’s plot. Look at shapes of graves in the pamphlet photo

Hint 2

Note extra clues on the pamphlet and map.

Solution

Plot number: TF008

The clues are contained within the pamphlet and map:

  • Watermarks are visible from the 1961 flood in The Dell, The Folly, The Cedar Garden, Percival’s Corner and The South and West Plots.
  • Convicted criminals (eg Eliza) can’t be buried in Holy Glade, Percival’s Corner or in either of the Gardens.

Eliza’s grave shows watermark damage and as a criminal, can only be in The Dell, The Folly, The South or West Plots.

The photo shows Eliza’s ‘Roof’ tombstone next to a Serpentine tombstone.

The only location of this combination and in the allowed sections, are in The Folly, with Eliza at TF008

Eliza Green Photo: Coded Messages

Hint 1

Study the cipher key on Eliza Green’s Burial Records page

Hint 2

Follow the instructions to decode the 2 messages on photo

Solution

Messages: COPPER KEY IN THE CRYPT
& BRASS KEY IN THE WELL

The cipher on Eliza’s burial records is a ‘Caesar-style Shifting guide’.

Take the first letter in the coded message “A”, then looking at “A” in the cipher’s alphabet, follow the first instruction “2 Forward”. This takes you to C on the alphabet. Then, for the next letter in the code, “Q”, follow the next instruction, “2 Back” which takes you to O.

Each letter uses one instruction.

Follow the next instruction for the next letter and so on. After the last instruction, start from the first one again.
